Hayang Park, a Korean violist born in Seoul in 1998, is currently based in Europe, where she is studying at the Kronberg Academy in Germany. Park started playing the viola at an early age and has established herself as an accomplished musician with numerous competition wins, including 2022 the 5th Tokyo Competition, where she recently won first prize.
At the age of 13, Park attended the Yewon School of Arts and later went on to complete her university studies at Yonsei University in South Korea, under the Professor Sang-Jin Kim, and received a bachelor’s degree in 2019. From 2018 to 2021, she studied at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid, under the guidance of renowned violist Nobuko Imai, supported by a scholarship from the Fundación Albeniz. Park has also had the opportunity to attend masterclasses with some of the leading violists in the world, including Lawrence Power, Tabea Zimmermann, Christoph Poppen, and Antoine Tamestit. With her outstanding musicianship and training, Park has already established herself as a rising star in the classical music scene, and her performances are eagerly anticipated by audiences in Europe and Asia.
Even in her early years, Hayang Park won a variety of national and international prizes. At twelve years old she won the Concours International de musique et d’art dramatique Léopold Bellan. In 2017 she took third prize in the string section of the 15th Tokyo Music Competition, and performed Hindemith’s viola concerto “Der Schwanendreher” together with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. She has also won numerous prizes in her native Korea, including the Chun-chu Music Competition and the Seoul National Philharmonic Competition.
Park’s concert biography already includes performances at Geneva’s Victoria Hall, Fondation Louis Vuitton and the Matsumoto Harmony Hall in Japan together with Maestro Seiji Ozawa.
She has performed at many international music festivals, including the Marlboro Music Festival in the United States, the Verbier Festival in Switzerland, the Seoul International Music Festival, the Kronberg Chamber Music Connects the World Festival, the Kronberg Academy Festival and TongYeong International Muisc Festival. She also performed chamber music with cellist Steven Isserlis, Gary Hoffman, violinist Leonidas Kavakos, Christian Tetzlaff, Antje Weithass, Kolija Blacher and Dong Suk Kang, violist Nobuko Imai, among others.
For the 2023/24 season, Park has planned solo recitals and chamber music performances in Tokyo and Osaka including at the Tokyo Suntory Hall and the Bunka Kaikan, and will perform with the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra. She will also join the 2023 ‘Musicians from Marlboro’ North America tour, which will take place in major cities such as New York’s Carnegie Hall Weil Recital Hall, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., and Boston.
Since October 2021, she has been studying at Kronberg Academy with Nobuko Imai. Her studies are funded by the Ulla Minners/Lore Buscher scholarship.

2022년 도쿄 국제 비올라 콩쿠르에서 한국인 최초로 우승을 차지한 비올리스트 박하양은 일찍이 비올라를 시작하여, 예원학교 졸업 후 연세대학교에 조기 입학해 김 상진 교수 사사로 학사학위를 취득했다.
그 후 스페인 마드리드 레이나 소피아 왕립음악원에서 스페인 알베니즈 장학 재단의 후원으로 이마이 노부코 교수를 사사하였다.
이미 유년시절부터 다양한 국내외 수상경력을 쌓아오고 있는 박하양은 12세에 파리 레오폴드 벨랑 국제 음악 콩쿠르 (Concours International de Musique et D’art Dramatique Leopold Bellan)에서 1위를 수상했으며, 2017년에는 제15회 도쿄 국제 음악 콩쿠르에서 힌데미트의 비올라 협주곡을 도쿄 필하모닉 오케스트라와 협연하며 현악부문 3위에 올랐다.
또한, 레이나 소피아 음악원 재학 당시 스페인 소피아 여왕으로부터 최우수 학생상을 수여받았다. 그 외에도 동아음악콩쿠르 등을 비롯한 수많은 국내 콩쿠르 수상 경력과 2013년 금호영재콘서트 시리즈 독주회, 광주시향과의 협연 등을 포함한 연주 경력들이 그의 커리어를 채우고 있다.
또한 많은 국제 음악 페스티벌 무대에 오른 박하양은 미국 말보로 뮤직 페스티벌, 스위스 베르비에 페스티벌, 서울국제음악제, 평창대관령국제음악제, 크론베르크 체임버 뮤직 페스티벌, 크론베르크 아카데미 페스티벌, 세이지 오자와 인터내셔널 아카데미에 참여해 제네바 빅토리아 홀과 파리 루이비통 재단, 카잘스 포룸 등에서 실내악 및 독주연주를 가졌다. 일본 마츠모토 페스티벌에서 지휘자 세이지 오자와와 협업했고 첼리스트 스티븐 이설리스와 개리 호프만, 바이 올리니스트 레오니다스 카바코스, 크리스티안 테츨라프와 안티에 바이타스, 콜야 블라허, 강동석, 비올리스트 이마이 노부코, 앙투앙 타메스티 등과 함께 실내악 연주를 하였다.
최근 박하양은 도쿄 산토리홀과 분카카이칸을 포함해 오사카와 센다이 등 일본 전역에서8회에 걸쳐 토호 가쿠엔 오케스트라와의 협연 및 독주회와 실내악 연주를 마쳤다. 2023/24시즌 뉴욕 카네기홀 베일 리사이틀 Weil hall 홀을 비롯해, 필라델피아, 워싱턴 D. C., 보스턴 등을 비롯한 주요 도시에서 열릴 2023 ‘Musicians from Marlboro’ 북미 투어와 나고야 필하모닉과의 월튼 콘체르토 협연 및 독주회, 도쿄에서의 바르톡 콘체르토 협연 등이 예정되어있다.
박하양은 독일 크론베르크 음악원에서 울라 미너스/로레 부셰르 (Ulla Minners/Lore Buscher) 장학 후원을 받으며 노부코 이마이 교수 사사로 석사과정을 마쳤다. 2022 세화음악장학재단에서 이종숙 장학금을 수여받았으며, 현재 크론베르크 음악원에서 전문 연주자 과정에 재학 중이다.
